What causes us to look at something, to want to look and absorb for longer than a moment? Maybe it’s the color, or the shape, or a memory that surfaces that seems unconnected but is connected. What is the key that holds our attention? Echoes of Place follows this line of thought as something catches my eye and I can’t let go. The image comes back to me, or I go to it repeatedly. I paint it, or I paint a portion of it, not as it might look in a photograph but as it appears to me as an echo or a reflection. Echoes of Place is scheduled to be shown at the Washington Street Gallery in Eastport in August of 2024. I’ll be adding more paintings to this site as they are cataloged and readied for the show.
